aftermarket exhausr or custom exhaust
So I am about to buy a comptech exhaust but before i shelled out the money my friend told me I can get a custom exhaust for half the price . He explained to me that they are all just pipes . It just matter what size I want either 63mm or 70mm or whatever size I want ...... Well what I want to ask is if its true . Is it worth it to buy an expensive exhaust or can I get the same performance from a custom exhaust ??

Has everything to do with the experience of the builder and your application. If I could get a guy to build an exhaust with proven gains who had the knowledge and know how to do so, I'd go for it.
On the other hand there are many used exhausts you can buy that cost about half of new.

If you are looking for a single, a shop welding it up is a no brainer.
Welding up a dual, a shop can hack up pretty good. The 1 to 2 pipe split needs good technique so the flow splits evenly. I've seen some shitty duals where the second pipe is welded on to the main pipe like an afterthought. At that point it's just dead weight.

I'm a bit of a fabricator and buying 2.5" (63mm) exhaust pipe and getting mandrel bent sections and welding it all up to how I want the system. I'm designing a light weight dual system and setting it all up with a custom electric cutout. Now id loe to do a 70mm pipe but were iam I going to find 2.75in inside diameter exhaust tube and mandrel bends for that size pipe? If u match a 63mm test pipe with a custom 2.5in exhaust then your good. Or maybe make your own 3in testpipe and custom 3in exhaust but iam unsure if the stock motor can flow that big of a exhaust.
After mines built I'm going to get it painted black, still up in the air about getting it powdercoated cause of the cost

Even considering shipping, it's pretty hard to match the build quality of a major brand exhaust. YMMV but in my town a good TIG welder is hard to find. Then adding the cost of stainless piping and bends plus a quality muffler brings you back up to an HKS 75mm shipped. If you want to cut cost, buy used. Aftermarket parts depreciate faster than meat in a market.

I'm going to custom because once I get it all built I can keep swapping in mufflers till I find something I like to give me the sound I'm looking for and aslong as you plan your system out correctly and use mandrel bent tubes and make the transitions smooth and have good quality welds you should see gains. Planning and prep is the most important, cut out restrictions and use gradualt mandrel bends and it'll gain over stock. Bet again custom gives you more control over how it'll end up sounding
