Default Ap1 secondary gear reduction

Hey everybody
I 'm moving to Europe and consider geting my ap2 tranny an ap1 secondary gear reduction for better mpg. that's $7/gallon or more in Europe. Does anybody know how much would that cost me as far as labor and parts?

Has anyone done that or the reverse of it?

Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Damn cracking two tranny open is no easy/cheap task, and the result benefit per dollar return is definitely not worth it, compare to the few euro's you will save.

If you are looking to get lower revs from each gear, why not look into a cheaper option of getting like the 3.9 final drive gears? Hell, I've seen AP1 tranny in the FS threads go as low as $400, why not just pick one up and try it out?

I've personally gone the other way, Ap1 to Ap2, and while 1-4 gear is shorter, but I don't think its that much shorter.. i.e. made no difference in my miles/gallon, even with a 4.3 FD.

Any ideea where I can get the 3.9 gear set for the diff. I agree. This is cheaper. Also I could probably put taller tires in the back... I'm looking for all season tires anyway and that might heighten the gearing but not sure how much though.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Try PMing 'S2KPUDDYDAD'. I belief he can source them for you, or better yet, can could probably install it for you professionally if you send him your diff. He is a very well known Diff builder on s2ki, I bought my stage2 reinforced Diff from him with a 4.3 FD last year. Awesome guy to talk to even if you just have diff questions.
