am curious if there are any differences between the ap1 and the ap2 exhaust (catback) beside the tips.

1. can ap2 exhaust be installed on an ap1?
2. can the ap1 tips be put on an ap2?

 

I can tell you that the 06+ catback has a different helmholtz resonator (that little can that sticks out right behind the cat) for a deeper sound (that you don't really notice). An 06+ will not fit a 00-05 S2000 properly. The CR exhausts do not have the twin loops on the mufflers.

 

the tips will swap over, but they can stick out a fit further on an Ap1 compared to Ap2, still looks good IMO, I've got them on my 02.

 

You can't swap ap1 tips to an ap2 exhaust.

 

They do and dont. It is basically the exact same but the routing is internal instead of the external loop.
