so california is the only state where this is NOT legal? Arrr...
Non legal per'se in the fact that it's illegal to remove a non damaged , functioning OEM cat by a lay person in all 50 states. This law does not take into consideration the effeciency of any aftermarket cat-converter replacement OEM equivlent or not.
To stay within the law in any state, an aftermarket CAT would have to be installed by a mechanic and he would have to attest that the CAT he removed did not meet current spec.

Does anyone have this running on a stock exhaust system? If so could you post up a clip of the sound? I would like to compare the difference it really makes to the tone.

I don't have any sound clips, but I can tell you there is very little sound difference with the Berk HFC and stock exhaust. I just put mine on last week.

has anyone running this hfc without the heatshields notice more heat through the passenger floor, than the stock cat. the stock cat, i had a lot of heat coming through from under the vehicle from the exhaust. the center console area on the passenger side gets very hot, this is why i wanted to keep the oem heatshields on to keep as much heat as possible from reaching the passenger compartment
I have it without heatshield/thermo isolator, and I dont really feel the difference.. it gets as hot as before (as far as I can tell). But the cat itself for sure runs hotter as before.. mainly because now the car runs a bit leaner (due to the extra re-tune)

Btw.. I have a EDM MY08 (F20C DBW) and after several thousands km I have got no CEL at all (I have it paired with a ASM 07 header, Tanabe Concept-G exhaust and everything is tuned with a EMU)

ya, berk's hfc is nice. 2 thumbs up.

mine's been rattling. the comb became loose from all the exhaust vibrations.

talked to bryan at berk, he said he'll give me 30% off for a new one since i am out of warranty.

they have excellent customer service.
