Here is the air filter testing that was mentioned earlier: Link. The K&N filter was one of the worst in filtering and had one of the lowest dirt capacities. Foam air filters will also perform similarly poorly. I would stick with OEM. I can't fathom why all the turbo guys run without air filters.

OK so I did some searching on OEM air filters. It seems there are two types but one part number. Do both have a velocity stack? I guess the visible difference is the mounting post on one is an X, the other is a solid post.

Also, A air filter will filter better as it loads up with dust. You just don't want to leave it on to long, so how do you know when to change it? Buy a filter restriction gauge like this

If you change(or clean) the fliter to often, you will let more dirt into your engine. So this is where the restriction gauge comes into play. It tells you when its time to change the air filter out. I change mine out when it shows 11" of restriction or six years.
