I have removed my cat, and put on a test pipe. Immediately felt the difference (i would agree with guesses of around 5-8hp gain. Best bang for buck mod on the car.
I also think the smell is quite nice - not sulphurous at all (believe me, i know the smell of sulphur and hate it). Smeels like slightly burnt cookies.
Plus i don't have children so don't particularly care what happens to the planet once i'm done with it! (that should spark a bit of debate)... :-)

If no cars in a city like LA had a cat the smog would be much much worse. Look back at the 60s when there were far fewer cars and the smog was much worse. Cats work and make a huge difference in air quality. Millions of cars can impact the local environment.

Anyway this is a classic prisoner's dilemma and the reason governments have to rule with force. Too bad that.

Not if you're behind one. Stop kidding yourself cause we ain't buyin' it.

I can always tell when I'm behind a car with a test pipe........period.

I agree with shotiable - if you are so concerned, sell the S, buy a Prius or bike or whatever - that will average out all the people who have removed cats.
Win, Win. We get the extra performance and sound that we love, and you get that lovely warm smug self-righteous feeling all over that you love.

prius buying bit(hes - can't stand em...

pass the popcorn

You dont even have to DO anything to not pollute excessively. You have to actively remove a part, and get a software fix (time, money, effort) to pollute. You're making an active effort to pollute more than you have to?? What gives?
Can't put it any better. It's without a doubt putting a TP for street use = rather selfish move
