ans2k, you have a stock hood? Can it carbon install under stock hood? filter is stock or K&N? Whether the difference in comparison with the stock filter.

Any one know, mugen intake with carbon ducts can it install under stock hood? Or if I want to change my intake to Mugen intake, I must change hood too((?
yes i have a stock hood. my filter is a k&n but i really dont think it matters all that much, i got it b/c i like thier filter, idk why. having a performance filter will gain you about 1-2hp which is very useless but that is in the same margin of error of a dyno.

if you go with a mugen, then yes you have to cut into the hood but spoon has a snorkel that will fit with stock hood, j's has two one fits with the stock hood and one doesn't, if you want to keep a support beam that is behind your bumper(ap1 does not have this) you can go with muz s2000, they are made out of fiberglass.

cutting the hood isn't really bad, it might make it weaker but not enough to notice. if you do install the snorkel, you have to move the latch that locks the hood in place up, it should lock normally.

horsepower wise, i have not seen a dyno of any snorkel yet.

Loving the black valve cover, the yellow battery kills it...
yea i know, its all auto zone had at the time and i couldnt put off buying a battery anymore. It would either barely start or id have to jump start it and if the trip was too short it wouldnt start and id be stranded (happened twice), i wanted to get the little carbon fiber Braille battery to mount in the trunk....

...i actually thought about rattle caning the battery black

I may have a rare opinion here, but I've had the following 3 intakes:

1. K&N FIPK
2. AEM V2
3. Comptech Ice Box (currently)

My take on all 3 are:

-K&N FIPK Gen. II:
To me this is a very cheaply made product. Plastic piping, and a heavy metal box. I thought the point was to reduce weight a little? Plus, with the open air box, this can pull in plenty hot air from the engine bay. Yes, you can buy some extreme heat spray paint used on BBQ Grills, but that's only good for the sides & bottom of the metal box.

Positives, I can only think of one....Sound.

-AEM V2:
I really liked this intake! Yes, there is a slim possibility you can hydro-lock the engine, however you don't have to worry about not getting the coolest air. Very well made product, easy to install and sounds great!

-Comtech Ice Box:
I currently have this on my S2. A bit of a pain to install, but it does sound good! You can do the same mod as you can for the K&N by buying the extreme heat BBQ Grill Paint, and coat the inside of the entire box. Solid product in the end. Worth the purchase.

My final rankings:

1. AEM V2-Feels like it gains the most hp per the seat of your pants test. Plus, it's a true CAI.
2. Comptech Ice Box-Well made product which sounds good and gives you a noticeable gain if your going from stock to CAI.
3. K&N-Plastic tubing & heavy metal box are a negative. However, the sound is good.

anyone have a comparison of K&N FIPK and PRM?

which is louder out of the 2?

Also k&N seems to have more consistant good reviews than the PRM

TS2K- Cutting the underside wont affect the way the hood closes if you cut enough for it to clear the intake. I just had a look around on this forum and used the pictures as guidence when i went to cut my hood.

also the PRM intake looks interesting, is that louder than the K&N or comptech icebox?
By Far. PRM is as close a sound you can get with an intake to ITBs

so would make the car seem laggy?

i have had this concern about the K&N as well. Did you experience this only in start/stop traffic on a hot day?

and as mentioned the K&N does look 'cheap' hehe
