Any update on the headlight scoop? Other than the purpose of the scoop I think it looks unique as well

Keep us up with the updates

Just waiting for a deal to pop up :\ im not about to cut open a $400 headlight. Then i just have to figure out what plastic duct i want to use. I will probably use a clear naca duct.

I would love to start cutting up a headlight right now but i just don't have the money to throw around. Ive seen them going for like $300 for one in the classifieds.

I have the process all planned out in my head. I want to take the outer lense off in order to do it the way i am thinking. I will probably be reviewing this as i go... http://www.ricks2k.com/info/instructions/diffuser.pdf

i have this mod on my passenger side with ducting routed into the side of the oem air box. holes were also cut into the divider thing in the airbox. here's the best pic i have on my computer at the moment. as some of you may recognize, i am the new owner of sinji's car. it came with this mod already done, so i cannot comment on any improvements it couldve made. i thought it was the source of my stalling problem, but ive traced that to a dirty iacv now. my original theory was that it caused air turbulence thereby confusing the map sensor when i would drive a slower speeds. that doesnt seem to be a problem as the flow after air filter would be pretty consistent.

for what its worth, i would prefer to go back to a stock head light. going back to an ap1 front bumper without the spoon fogs, and one fog is kinda odd. its like winking at people that cut me off.

another tip: the trim around the hole was terrible when i first got it. i had some extra door trim from autozone so i redid it. it helps to heat up the trim for the inner triangular part so it would form to the shape of the hole better. its a U shape, and when you fold it, the walls like to fold out. the heat helps keep it from doing so. also keeping the trim a littler longer than the circumference with help it fit better. extra length of trim sorta helps to push itself out and stick to the edges of the hole. not sure if i explained it right, but let me know if any one has further questions, or wants to trade lights with me

First of all i am so glad you found this thread! Thanks for all the information.

Yes i do understand what you are saying about the trim BTW lol. I was wondering is yours cut the same way as the Evasive car? or is the rest of your headlight sealed off? Would it be possible to get a few close up shots so we can see some better detail? Any other information you can provide would be awesome.

glad i could help. i dont post much, but i felt since i have this exact set up already, i may be able to share some insight.

my set up is currently open to the elements, i guess similar to the evasive motorsports car; except on the other side. i am not sure how long the previous owner has had it set up this way, but ive been daily driving the car since i got it many months ago; including in heavy rain. i am currently out of the country but should be back sept 3rd (i know its a long time, sorry). if you could pm me to remind me, i can get you as many pics as you would like, including the ducting and everything.

it would be easier to extend the tube all the way through the headlight and cut the lens to match shape of the tube, then seal it somehow. you would have an elliptical hole rather than a triangular one, which i feel would be better for airflow; especially if you could get some sort of velocity stack going on. having the tube all the way to the outer lens should also provide smoother air flow, as you wouldnt have an area of turbulence on the inside of the headlight. that is how i would approach it if it hadnt already been done on my car.

i would have to take a closer look, but the inside of the headlight seemed pretty weather proof last time i checked. i wouldnt stick a hose in there, but the projector has been holding up. i will report back if mine ever goes out though. maybe another member that has more experience could shed some light on just how well sealed the projector itself is. hidplanet forums may also be of some help, as i know s2k projectors are a very popular retrofit.

Awesome,
I think everyone agrees with extending the duct all the way through the headlight. I would be affraid to leave it open to the elements but as you said youve had no issues. Not sure where you live and what not or who inspects your vehicles, but have you gotten this inpected as is with the light like that? Have you ever been pulled over or ticketed for this modification?

yea the projector being exposed is always on the back of my mind, but thats a problem for another day.

i live in socal, so its probably about as strict as it will ever get haha. i havent ever gotten a ticket for the light (knock on wood), nor have i ever been sent to a state ref before, so i cant really give you any first hand experience about the legality of it. when i got the car though, i had to get it smogged in order to transfer the title to my name. i am not sure if thats what you mean by inspection, but the smog tech only cared about the gases coming out the back. i hope that helps.

They do not make them. This is why Evasive went through the trouble to make there own, and why we are trying to educate ourselves to make our own as well.
