Default Exhaust Resonator Mod?

I had the exhaust dialed in perfectly when I was turbo'd. The Greddy kit + 63.5mm Berk HFC + Fujitsubo cat-back was quiet, but it had a low, mean growl that you could just barely hear. Then I went SC (SOS kit) and I've been struggling to find the right solution ever since.

The SC + HFC + Fuji are way too loud.

The SC + HFC + OEM cat-back makes a loud, embarrassing rattle that I think is caused by a small dent in the resonator. Otherwise the exhaust sound itself is pretty quiet, like stock.

So, I'm thinking of welding in a Vibrant resonator, probably the Ultra Quiet version. Should I try to replace the OEM resonator with this? Or weld in a second resonator on the Fuji to quiet it down a bit? I kind of like the idea of having a second resonator on the Fuji, in hopes that it'll still flow better than the OEM. I'm also not sure the Vibrant resonator will deliver the same sound dampening as the OEM resonator.

Thoughts?

I might have to. The thing is, I just paid $$ to have a second O2 bung welded onto the HFC for my wideband. And the bolt threads are shredded on one of the OEM cat studs, so I'd have to drill it out or try to file the threads down so they work again.

That might be where I wind up, or I might try to find another OEM cat-back locally.

If you like the sound of it with the OEM exhaust (except for the rattle you described) then try to find one local to put on. A lot of people have theirs laying around and will get rid of them cheap if you pick them up.

I didn't want to admit to myself that your suggestion was the best answer... Didn't want to lose the imagined "gains" from the Fuji. But you were right, and I did just that. Picked up another OEM cat-back locally and installed it; problem solved.

Oh, and I didn't have a small dent in the resonator. It was huge!
