Default Filter Size for Mugen Intake

Does anyone know how big the diameter of the opening in the Mugen intake is?

I currently have a J's Racing Tsuchinoko intake that I was planning to use the snorkel from to feed air to an ITB airbox. However, I've found out that the vented ASM hood I have doesn't actually clear the J's intake. The actual vent hits the intake. So, I'm looking at switching over to the Mugen intake, as I believe it does actually fit (trying to verify with GoTuning now). I previously purchased a Vibrant velocity stack and a custom aFe filter to go with it, that fit inside the J's snorkel, and I'd like to know if I can fit them inside the Mugen intake instead. The diameter of the base of the filter is 7-1/2" and the height of the cone is 5". I'm trying to maintain 90mm (3-1/2") piping from the filter to the airbox, hence the velocity stack and custom filter, and I was going to make a custom plate to tie them into the J's snorkel.

I can confirm that the ASM hood + Mugen intake work together; I have both.

The Mugen intake kit includes a velocity stack that the filter attaches to. The outlet of the velocity stack is 3.5”

Thank you for verifying that. It's good to know that switching over to the Mugen will definitely fit with my hood.

That's good information. So, I should be able to tie in the 3.5" piping I was already going to use for the J's intake straight into the Mugen intake.

Good news all around. Thank you both, for your help.

ASM OEM or Vented hood have the bump for MUGEN or ASM intake. You would need the J's Racing hood, to fit the J's Racing intake.

Yes. The reason I know this is that Origin Fabrication makes a 3.5” titanium arm for the Mugen intake to the Toda ITB airbox. 3.5” is a direct fit to the Mugen outlet. The piping is a tight fit though with how low the hood is.

Actually, I believe that the Mugen hood does work with the J's Racing intake, as it has the cutout and doesn't sit lower than the OEM hood. I thought I was in the clear with the J's intake since the product description on GoTuning states "Mugen or ASM hood can be used without cutting." Evasive's website says the same thing. So, wherever they're copying that description from is wrong. I talked to Tommy at GoTuning today and he confirmed that this is an error. I didn't realize there was that much of a difference between the J's and the Mugen.

Currently, I'm planning to use a couple 3.5" silicone couplers and a section of 3.5" aluminum pipe, as I need to weld in a bung for the IAT sensor, as well as a couple bungs to connect some other tubing. Tommy also confirmed that running the Mugen straight into the Toda Surge Tank was a fairly common solution. So, sounds like that's the right path.

I own the MUGEN CFRP hood and ASM vented CFRP hood, I can see what you mean. Are you going to use a MUGEN intake and Toda Racing ITB/Surge tank? The Toda ITB surge tank inlet hole is more towards the LH side of the engine bay(maybe higher too) than the OEM location. Samco intake arms won't work, unless you want to look into adapter pieces. I would also recommend running the Toda ISCV kit, if you have the Toda ITBs.

If your looking for a MUGEN intake, I can refer you to a company, just send me a PM.

Sent you a PM.

Yeah, the strategy now is to get the Mugen intake and plumb it straight into the Toda Surge Tank. I actually do also have the Toda ISCV kit that I am planning to run.

I've got two 45-degree HPS couplers (I can get other angles if necessary), one for the intake end and one for the manifold end, that I want to cut to length and insert a straight section of aluminum pipe between them, which I can weld three bungs to. I've already got an aluminum IAT bung and I also have two 1/16" NPT bungs so that I can plumb in two additional hoses. One of the 1/16" bungs is actually for the inlet to the Toda ISCV and I was thinking I'd use the other one for the evap hose, since I don't really have anywhere better to put it.
