That's not true. Most 4.56/57 will whine no matter what.

I used ti have 4.77's those did not whine at all. For daily driving I would not want a longer gear than that really. For a track it might be different but no experience so can't comment on that.
I really don't see how 4.44's for daily driving would be worth it at all. 4.77's already are noticeable but not anything really insane so a 4.44 seems like a waste strictly for feel and making the car feel better down low etc.

A properly installed gear will not whine.

The 4.57 gear set will make some noise, but it is not a whine. The 4.56 gear set saw as close to stock as you can get when installed right.

[QUOTE=camuman,Mar 13 2010, 12:02 PM] only difference between ap1/ap2 trans is 5,6 gear ratios and reduction gear.

1-4 are identital ratios.

I may be wrong.. but Im fairly confident that AP2 Transmission, gears 1-4 are ~5% shorter and gears 5 and 6 are ~5% longer?

Thats what Ive always heard anyways..
they are shorter, but not becuase the gear itself has a different ratio, its becuase the reduction gear in the trans is different ap1-ap2. thats why i said 1-4 are identical, but 5-6 are different and the reduction gear is different

1.16 in ap1 trans and 1.206 in ap2

thats why between the shorter reduction gear and the carbon coated synchros, the ap2 trans in an ap1 is an awesome swap imho.

Ah ok, very nice information. I was wondering why whenever I looked up the individual gear ratios for AP1s and AP2s the number were the same. I just figured it was information that was never updated heh

The 4.56 and 4.57 gear sets have been discontinued for some time now... contact s2kpuddydad on these forums... he gets a hold of the Richmond 4.57 sets used from time to time... that's who built my stage 2 4.57 diff... goodluck
