Default Flat towing a S2000

Hi all
I am trying to set my s2k (2000) up to tow behind my RV. I have a Blue Ox tow bar and they only offer a baseplate for the 2004 S2000, since the frame isn't different (is it?)
I am wondering if there is any reason I couldn't use this on my 00.

Any thoughts and insights are greatly appreciated

Randy

A tow bar that fits one year S, should fit all years. The only thing I can think of that could be an issue is bumper clearance, ap1 vs ap2.

But is this safe? I thought towing was a no-no due to our torsen diff.

Honda (and as I recall other rather knowledgable members here) recommends ONLY flat bed towing.

Can you tow the car backwards?

Honda built the car, but what would they know?

Anyway here's what they wrote in my Owners' Manual. And yours...

The only way you can safely tow
your vehicle is with flat-bed
equipment.

The operator will load
your vehicle on the back of a truck.
Any other method of towing will
damage the drive system.
When you
contact the towing agency, inform
them a flat-bed is required.
(Emphasis added.)

My manual only refers to body damage if not towed by flat bed. I've known others who've towed their s2k,s for thousands of miles with no ill effect. I also would be surprised that Blu Ox would make a baseplate for a car that can't be towed.

I had to tow my s2k once. The guy just used dollies on the rear wheels to keep them off the ground.

Blue Ox isn't responsible for your damaged drive train even if they make a tow bar. They make one simply because they can sell one.

This towing warning is specifically in EVERY S2000 owners manual from 2000 to 2009. The earlier manuals go farther and specifically state the "dolly" or "sling" methods are unacceptable (ground clearance issues here). Only acceptable method to Honda is all four wheels off the ground.

Lots of us get away with stuff that violates the manufacturers requirements but that doesn't mean the next guy will. I've got no dog in this hunt, it's your car. Emergency towing is on page 191 of my '06 manual. Page 179 of the '05 (which I downloaded to get the maintenance intervals as the Maintenance Minder is on the '06 and later). Etc. Downloading the manual makes searching it easy.
