Default Help needed with dash disassembly

I am looking to pop out the panel to the left of the steering wheel to install a guage. The small panel that holds the audio controls. Has anyone done this and are there any tricks or do I need to drop the steering column?

Not sure how to get at this little piece and don't know what precautions to take to not accidentally blow the airbag. If anyone has scans from the manual that would be fantastic.

I am trying to do something similar to this:

TIA.

You need to drop the steering column and unscrew the 2 screws above the gauges. It's been a while since I did it but I believe that's all you need to unbolt. the rest just pops out. Take the whole dash bezel out and then you can see how the panel comes out. I'll be at my parents the afternoon (I keep all my spare parts there). I will look at my old one and see how it looks.

Thanks for the help. So I can just drop the steering column with a few bolts but leave it all connected up? No need to disconnect airbag connectors and so forth?

You call leave all of the connections intact. Just remove the four bolts holding the steering column to the dash.

There is no need to drop the column. Just disconnect the battery and remove the steering wheel. There is 2 torx screws(T30 I think), one on each side, that hold the air bag in place. They're located under plastic covers that pop off. Once you remove them you can pull the air bag out and remove the 14mm bolt holding the wheel to the column and you're done.
