I don't know for sure since I haven't received the FlashPro yet, but I suspect that the unit will be able to export the current tune to a file so that you could restore it later, similar to a BIOS reflash on a computer. Maybe not, but I would be surprised.

The FlashPro does not save the flash on the ECU when you install it. When you remove the FlashPro, you go back to stock. The 1$150 rebate recognises this.

There are calibrations which match the reflash - the S2000-US-2-Tuned calibration is as good or better than the NA reflash, and the Supercharger calibration will work very well too.

You're saying, that when you unlock the Flashpro from the actual vehicle, it returns to stock, correct?

For a second there I thought you were saying that the Flashpro has to be installed in the vehicle at all times.

As i understand it they are not planning on including any of the current reflashes on this unit. Only base calibrations to use to start off your tune. I was trying to get one with the kraftwerks reflash on it but no such luck .

It makes sense why they would exclude it from a business prespective. Why would anyone in there right mind consider purchasing a reflash from hondata if you can purchase flashpro with it already on there? I think they kept it that way so those who do not care to spend the extra 400-600 for tuning then there is still a market for the standard reflash.
I don't understand that logic at all. The flashpro should replace the reflash. Hondata already spent the time developing the reflash tune, so it can't be anymore work to put that tune onto the flashpro than it is to put on an ECU sent in. They save the time/logistics of tracking and handling ECUs being sent in and out.

Hondata gets another $100 out of anyone who would have purchased the reflash. I bet few previously considering the reflash would opt to buy nothing due to the added $100, especially given that you can swap between "tuned" and "stock" at will.

Those that want a plug n play solution can use a preset map, but you always have the flexibility to have a custom tune done. Seems like Win/Win to me.

[QUOTE=gernby,Oct 16 2009, 06:54 PM]I suspect that since people can share their calibrations with other users, there should be TONS of tunes available soon.

I'll clarify: To uninstall the FlashPro, the ECU must be reflashed back to stock first. You don't need the FlashPro plugged in except when datalogging or reflashing.

The calibration files (.fpcal) can be shared without restriction, although there is an option for tuners to read protect the calibration when they tune a vehicle.

OK, awesome, that's what I figured. Thanks for the clarification.

The LSX tuning apps have that protection option too, though when I had my car professionally tuned, I used a tuner who didn't lock it (so I was able to back up his tune from ECU to save in case anything ever happened). In fact, he used a completely different brand tuning app (LSEdit Pro), but of course the tunes themselves are all standardized one "in" the ECU.
