How sweet a good clutch and flywheel are...
Sadly I am not writing about my own car but hopefully I will make the changes soon to enjoy the fun I had in someone else's. I figured I would share some quick feedback about an AP1 clutch in an AP2 for those looking at the change.
I was at Ballade having some work done on my AP2 and they let me drive one of their cars to run some errands. I took out the yellow car which I believe is an AP1 with an AP2 motor and drivetrain with all the goodies from a Japanese Type S. First off they have the OEM seats covered in Alcantara and GOOD GOD ITS BETTER THAN LEATHER. I digress.
From what Alex told me the car is using an AP1 flywheel with the Ballade pressure plate and clutch disk. I cannot give enough positive feedback to the fun the lighter flywheel brings. I cam from an ITR to the S2000 and instantly missed how freely and light the engine in the ITR felt. The AP2 felt instantly more "heavy" and sluggish. Response on this yellow version was fantastic. So much easier to rev match and I had no issue with the car loosing momentum driving around town. I will also add the clutch pedal was very light and easily depressable. Compared to my car, with 110,000 miles, it feels like a lead brick.
I hope to make these drivetrain mods to my car soon enough. If any of you are considering it-DO IT!
