inexpensive mods for DD
If you get some koni yellows and the ground control springs, I feel they perform better than almost all of the sub $1500 coilovers. I have that combo and love them. Great ride, handling feels great etc. Most of the cheaper Chinese coilovers most get are really oversprung and under dampened. That is just my opinion however.
I have been hearing about the koni ground control combo forever (i swear it was the only thing that was acceptable on honda tech). For the price there is definately a ton of coilovers that will do the job just as well if not better and for less money and are much easier to install. The best advice I can give on this is go out to a local meet and go on a few ride alongs to see what you like. I just got ksports and love them but they are stiff. I also love that Ksport is local and they will service their coilovers on site and for cheap.
To answer your question about the FIPK no you will not need a tune just reset the ecu. I went with the Comptech used which looks better IMO and is alittle quiter but the FIPK is about as much new as a used comptech. Again head out to a meet and check out a few cars.

^Feeling good and actually performing well are very different. Most of the cheaper coilovers will hurt performance more than improve it unfortunately.
For just a stiff feeling ride and adjustable height etc the cheaper coilovers are definitely the way to go though.

From my research they are worse than stock in regards to handling performance. Could be wrong but have heard that from numerous track guys.
Many love them so that's all that matters.
Anyways sorry for getting off topic.

fresh tires (Direzza or similar, step up the width 225 & 255)
street/track brake pads (like hawk hp+ or similar)
DOT 4 or 5.1 brake fluid (not DOT 5)
HPDE for the nut behind the wheel
Just get that first track day under your belt, everything else is second place. Make sure the event sponsor and track rules will allow the stock roll hoops before you drop $$.
