Intake/Exhaust horse power gain (i need help AH)
I have an 00 s2k with a kakimoto single cat back exhaust and everything else is stock on the car...i have noticed that i lose a lot of low end torque with this exhaust system but was told by a friend that i need to have an intake to accommodate the exhaust...such that as much air as the exhaust can put out needs to have the same input of air through the intake since both stock intake and exhaust are very restrictive due to emissions...will buying an intake help or will the power gain be minimal - if this will help with the power then i will get an intake..if not i see no reason (besides the sound) to put on the stock duals again...many other people have said that the stock setup on the s2000 will get the most horsepower than any after market parts besides obvious forced induction and n20 because of how well the car was designed...if the intake and exhaust and maybe a header doesn't gain much power why waste the money right?? my real question is what are ways to get additional power out of the car besides a turbo/supercharger or nitrous? any ideas to my dilemma?

Minimal at best. The stock intake is very efficient. The car is very tuned from the factory. Squeezing out HP from this car going N/A is very difficult and expensive.

The stock intake is very efficient so it is not your problem. I would suggest getting a 4.56/4.77 final drive installed. It is IMO the best bang for buck modification you can do to this car.

get a 02-03 oem ecu or vafc and tune it. bam more power then any intake will ever give you
intake will not fix the low end loss you feel you lost. i guess if the single you put on is 3" you would lose perceivable power.

Well, you won't know for sure if you've lost power or gained until you hit the dyno with the stock and after with the cat back. The low end torque loss could be from loss of back pressure which could be due to too large piping. An intake might help but I doubt it'll get you much. The S2k's intake and exhaust are so well made I think that it's hard to get gains with just simple bolt ons unless you go with the expensive, really well designed stuff like Toda or Mugen or get it tuned.

if you get the right intake and exhaust, plus header and test pipe, you can hope to gain like 10hp max. it saves a bit of weight, but you really wont gain alot of power with these mods without tuning the ecu.
and to answer your question, the intake and exhaust really arent restrictive. there are a few DIY mods you can do, but really the gain is always going to be negligible.

or to gain a few hp put on a testpipe, youll get a bit better sound off of the stock exhaust.
