If you're swapping back to an OEM or OEM-like clutch, I would absolutely consider a lightened flywheel. Also, take a look at this article:

https://www.s2ki.com/home/2012/03/03...p2-drivetrain/

I have the 8.6 lb ACT Prolite flywheel installed with a new OEM clutch, and it is awesome. There are no drivability issues, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

From what I've driven of my car now:

01 ap1
-prm intake
-OEM buzzless disk
-Competition clutch ultra light flywheel
-OEM pressure plate
-Ap2 transmission

This is a very good setup. Shift feel is much smoother and more 'mature' than my old ap1 transmission. The gearing is quite a bit shorter and 6th is noticeably longer on the highway. Everything is strangely quiet, since my car has always had the buzz. The clutch pedal feel is extremely light and easy to press vs what I was used to, but that's probably because everything was greased well. I like it! Plus, no more bearing noise from my old ap1 unit!

When I bought the car a couple years ago, it had all original parts.

This is what my 12 year old clutch looked like: (it had only 99,6xx miles on it)

this was what I replaced it with:

and....

It's a new oem throwout bearing.

Whichever bearing(s) were going out are still in the other tranny unit.

That's what I'm running, if you get yours in before mine I'd love to hear a report on how it works for you. Mine won't be running until mid-August.

What would make it "un-soft"?

From the article, I would expect the OE AP2 clutch and pressure plate would have enough clamping force to handle lighter flywheel without slip. However, does the CDV need to be removed in the AP2 with a lighter flywheel? The CDV is a timing mechanism to reduce the rate at which you apply the clutch to avoid driveline shock. The heavy AP2 FW has enough inertia to allow for this delay. How does the system act with a lighter FW with CDV installed?
