Would the 6 new Gern-Pipe owners please make sure to provide feedback about your results once you have them installed? I will begin making plans to make another batch ONLY after hearing your results.

Dropping off at tuners tonight and I probably won't get the car back until Wednesday. Unfortunately, I have no history with this tuner so I will not have comparative data unless I backtrack at a later time.

Car runs like a5$ right now above 25% THR and 5k RPM so I told him not to do a untuned run.

I'm most interested in seeing a vtec xover below 4k lol. It just doesn't seem possible to me based on my prior experiences.

If your tuner can't find gains with VTEC down to ~3600, then something is wrong. Since I think you said you put the stock header back on, the only thing I could see causing an issue with a 3600 RPM VTEC engagement would be your cams. I don't know anything about the cams you have, so if the cam timing or overlap is significantly different, that would be my only concern.

Gernby - what would be the ideal setup in your opinion if i wanted to keep my ap2 stock exhaust? for example, HFC (what size?) or test pipe?, gernby pipe, and then stock exhaust?

The gernpipe replaces the cat and resonator of an exhaust. It basically converts a catback into something like a headerback or makes the stock header Very long...whichever way you want to look at it.

It has a built in hfc right before the rear driveshaft, so it isn't exactly just a straightpipe.

The standard tested setup is a tuning solution (kpro, fpro, ems, haltech, etc) and gernpipe, everything else could be stock. Welding will be required for most people to install it.

I agree with jh4db536, but would add that the best header to be combined with my mid-pipe is the OEM header. Any other header may reduce performance and / or cause fitment issues. I know for sure that I would need to modify my mid-pipe to work with the T1R header that I had last year, since the header flange wound up being in a slightly different location by about 1/2".

Thanks for the reply guys. I have a stock header so im good there. I also have a flashpro so i should be able to get it tuned...

as far as welding it on goes, it is just welding the muffler piece to gernby's piece from the header back?

Gernbys pipe is bolted to the stock header reusing the 2 springloaded bolts and gasket. The other side, which ends with a conical 2.5" opening just after the driveshaft must be welded to either a muffler or another flange. 2 vclamps are used to make installation flexible since they can be rotated.

The stock exhaust must be cut at the separator and welded to the gernpipe. One piece aftermarket exhausts ie. mugen will have to be cut. Titanium exhausts are not going to fare well.

Clearance was tricky IME and installation jigs were provided. The hfc is 4" in diameter and it snakes under the driveshaft cup and over the rear crossmember. There is little clearance and no hangers to support the gernpipe. I had to modify my muffler hangers a little bit in order to prevent rubbing (turned out very nice though now my mufflers are perfectly aligned with the bumper vs before).

I think the next version should have provisions for the middle hanger or maybe a support bracket.

I considered adding a middle hanger, but decided it would be better to NOT have it. The middle hanger is definitely needed when the OEM cat is installed, since it's so heavy, but the front of my mid-pipe is very light. The header flange doesn't have nearly as much weight to support as it does in stock form. Furthermore, the presence of a middle hanger would reduce the adjustability of the pipe for optimal fitment.
