so would installing jdm/higher compression pistons with a VAFC be more beneficial?

off-topic: Is a stand alone needed for higher compression pistons or is VAFC enough?

Every one we've dyno'ed didnt like below 5600-5700. I'd start with 5700, feels ok leave it.

Can you be more specific....More beneficial to what?

No its not needed, would it be better then a VAFC? sure, for the timing control aspect which your probably aware of. Depending on how radical of a jump you make in compression, will start to show its ugly face. You will appreciate the timing control of a stand alone as the higher the compression the less tolerant your car will be of detonation. Your safe zone will become slimmer and the ability to retard timing may come in handy. I would think a Vafc could be fine for running 12:1 with 92 octane and no timing adjustment needed, unless maybe you are running in the middle of the summer on a 100 degree day and driving hard, then you may hear some pinging.

I lowered mine from 6200 to 5700 while on the dyno. That engagemnet point showed the smoothest crossover and gained me 6 hp. I basically have all bolt-ons sone on my car.

Sure it would, but I have no direct experience with that set up to say how much benifit it would be. Stand alone is always going to be better then a piggy back. You control over all aspects of tuning rather then just some. I will say that most people agree your only getting your money's worth with a stand alone when going FI. When your talking about getting one just for the possibility of gaining 3or 4 more hp over a Vafc throughout the power band for the cost of $1000 or more it puts things in prospective.
