First, where did you buy the car? dealership? local S2KI member? The first thing you should spend money on is tuning the car up to make sure it has all the correct fluids. specially the diff. most dealerships do not know that the s2000 diff fluid is different that what they normally carry. just for a peace of mind go over the fluid changes and keep count of what you do.
look at the TSB sticky on the forum and the DIY stuff. get these issues addressed before anything else.
then...
go to a local autocross or a track day, so you know what you and want and how to set the car up. If you do get an exhaust remember its not really gonna get you HP like stated above, i got it for weight savings.
but if you dont have any plans of tracking then its up to you.

I cannot echo this any more completely. Use your money to learn to properly drive the car! You'll then use a little bit more for fluids, brakes, and tires.
Quality tires and autocross. Even if you don't plan on driving aggressively or tracking it, this car will bite you if you aren't paying attention. Autocrossing will help you learn the limits and is a lot more affordable than a trip to a racetrack. Swapping out fluids and a good once over by a knowledgable mechanic should be the first thing you should do. Check your regional forum and see if they have a recommendation for a mechanic or a knowledgable owner that would be willing to check the car out.
Calm down and just enjoy and learn the car. Read a lot on here and see what parts and what direction you want to go. Also a turbo is around $10k not $3k.
First mod should be buying a membership for s2ki. Change all the fluids to Amsoil and make sure your tires are good.go in your local subforum and attend the local meets and talk with other owners.

i love these posts.
"I just got an s2000 and i know more than Honda does about their cars and now want to make it 'better'."
You need to be up on ALL maintenance before you modify anything and not be piss poor before embarking on the modification road.
good luck and just learn the car in its bone stock configuration. that way you will figure out what YOU want to change. Don't ask us what you want to modify. Maybe you'll drive it for a while and say, "hey, i want to hear more of the engine." Great, change the exhaust and intake.
or maybe you'll want it to look cooler- maybe different rims or give it a mild suspension upgrade.
Maybe you'll say, "it needs more power." well, drive it on the track/autocross and really see how much more power you want. if you own an early AP1, did you know you need to change the oil squirter banjo bolts if you use forced induction? No? well, you do. have you done the rear axle nut retorque, yet? research aggressively before you waste your money. read the posts.
good luck again and heed the advice of those who have been around the block.
make sense?
