New S2000 owner, first mod completed
I'm the proud owner of a 2004 Silverstone AP2. I've been searching for months and narrowing down my choices for a fun weekend / auto-X / Track day car. 5 cars being considered were S2000, 370Z, Z4M, C6 Z51 and Boxster S. I then narrowed down to S2K and 370Z, two totally different cars, both appealing with me leaning to the S2K. Luckily I scored a great deal on a good condition S2000 without many stories behind it. My plan is to setup the car for track days and an occasional autoX. On my mod list will be suspension coilover vs springs/shocks, a dedicated wheel/tire setup for driving events, brake pad upgrades and a rollbar. I have prior HPDE experience with my E30 325IS and E36 M3. For me, setting the car up with stable and predictable handling that inspires confidence is a priority. The car will be kept street legal and will see more time spent on public roads than at road courses. While engine performance is always welcome, I realize that Honda engineering left little room for improvement without going FI. Gearing is something I will be looking into, but after handling and braking improvements are made. I like the handling out of the box, but I want to be able to tune the balance and cater it more to my driving style. I'm looking forward to getting input from the fellow members here. As for the first mods, I removed the front license plate and debaffled the airbox........I've only had it for a week and have yet to order any parts. The first part will likely be an intake as it opens up space in the engine bay and I love the intake sound at pulling up to redline.......it's almost addicting.
So as far as intake goes, the most common one purchased (and produces some small gains) is the K&N FIPK. The AEM intake is also well liked, but due to it's design can possibly hydrolock the engine during heavy rains.
For HPDE and suspension modifications, it really comes down to what you prefer. I personally went down the line of buying the Bilstein PSS9 kit, they are great on the streets and adequate on track. If you don't mind spending the extra $ the Ohlins DFV or KW V3 will give you better track capabilities without sacrificing on the street... all three can be re-valved for higher spring rates if you so choose.
For rollbars, the top two (in my mind) are the Hard Dog and the Rockstar... both are very similar, really comes down to your preference.
For a set of track wheels and tires, there are some very good options but depends if you want to keep the staggered setup or go square (which most track builds do). There are a few wheels in 17x9 and 17x10 sizes that would allow you to run 255/40/R17 square with minimal rubbing and fender issues. Some of these wheels include the TR Motorspors C3, 949 Racing 6UL, Enkei PF01SS, Forgestar F14, TSW Nurburgring, and many others. Really depends on what you prefer as far as style. For tires, I think the best bang for the buck is the new Bridgestone RE71R's if you are looking for something you can also run on the street. The Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Z2's are also very good and should last you a little longer that the RE71R's, but you will sacrifice a little on the grip levels.
Lastly, I recommend you spend alot of time reading on the Racing and Competition forum: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/forum/11-...peed-ventures/
Good luck!

There are 24 parts to my project build. From the outset, I had planned the wheel/tire combo, brakes, and suspension as a package to get the proper fitment of everything. The suspension did require additional spring rate changes to get the balance how I liked it. Anyway, plenty to read
You can start at the very bottom with wheels and the first set of tires.
