Default oil drain valve?

Quick question hopefully. But I'm on the fence.

I want to invest in the fumatomo? Oil drain valve for changing my oil, however after years of the tried and true oil pan bolt method, I'm scared to put something that seems "too easy" on my car.

I don't like the fact that it looks as though anything could release all of my oil and allow my engine to run dry. I know it has a "locking" mechanism, but is there a safer way to accomplish an easy oil change? Looks great in theory, I want to branch out. But I'm afraid something could catch the valve handle and all my oil could paint the street.

Who has them? How long? Any issues with leaks? Obviously its reversible.

Never had an issue with mine. The valve handle is pointed upwards so road debris won't hit it.

It does work great. I got nervous after a rock hit hard right next to it taking out some metal do I removed it. I have to jack up car to get to it anyways since I have a sc in the way etc so I removed it after a while.

I've had oil drain valves on all of my cars for the last 12 years, and never had a single problem. However, there is some risk that it could come loose if not torqued correctly. I would definitely check it often for the first week to make sure it isn't leaking. That said, don't over-tighten it either.

On a side note, there is MUCH more risk that the oil filter will come loose! There are countless people that have toasted their motors, or even had their cars catch on fire due to the oil filter coming loose.

I've ran one for 2 years no issues and no leaks.. My car isn't slammed but it is lowered a solid 2 inches and I have not had any issues with it.. Jacking up the car got old, best thing I did was buy that valve for convenience.

^^^ this. I brought my car to the honda dealership for the first time for an oil change since I just had surgery on my shoulder and couldn't do it myself and about 1000 miles later the oil filter spun itself off and caught my header on fire. Luckily I always carry a fire extinguisher on me. And put it out without any damage other then a huge bill to get my car towed 60 miles home from work. Lucky for me I had the top down and I shut down the engine the second I smelt oil and didn't do any engine damage. Huge cloud of smoke tho lol.

After doing the research, I purchased two of them and installed them on my S as well as my MDX. Was careful on the torque and made sure the thing was upright (and straight) so anything from the road would not likely strike it. (If I did hit something I would take a look for damage but I would do that anyway even w/o the Fumoto)

I do check with a mirror for leaks, as I do the filter, to make sure it is good to go. I change my oil every 3 thousand miles so it comes in pretty handy. I like it a lot. Installed it a year and a half ago.

I am careful installing the Honda OEM filter to the 7/8ths rotation after contact with a fitted filter wrench; I do not "torque" it. I also carry an extinguisher; all my cars have had one. (Used them twice-but happily not on my cars!)
