Default problem with an oem trunk I bought

Not sure if this is the right section but -

I purchased a trunk from an AP2 and I have an AP1 - it came with the full lock mechanism and the problem is that it is locked and won't open with the trunk release button. Luckily, I know the owner and will be able to get the key but is there any other way to open it? Also, once I do get it open/unlocked it should work fine with just the trunk release button correct? Or is there something I am missing?

Thanks

Obvious question: Did you plug in the locking mechanism?

Not the first time, since I wasn't planning to keep the trunk so I wasn't going to close it then one of my roommates actually did ("by accident").

I was talking about the trunk release button in glovebox. So the solution is just to plug in the locking mechanism? The car came with a CF trunk so when I removed that there was no plug. Gotta make sure it's still there once I get the trunk off.
