S2000 bumper with intake inlet
You have a greater chance of hydrolocking if your intake is submerged in water under throttle. Any snorkel intakes or duct, AEM is all fine as long as your car is not in a flood zone. You shouldn't even be driving when it rains that hard anyways...
$hit happens and I'm not saying you can't hydrolock under just heavy rain, but the chances are unlikely.

To hydro lock a motor you need to suck enough water in during a single stroke to fill the combustion chamber completely. IE it would have to be a solid water mass. If you've ever tried to drink a fountain drink with a crack in your straw you know that you wont get any. The only way you are going to hydrolock a motor is if you submerge a sealed intake pipe. This will not happen with the above intake, even in a monsoon, unless you're driving in 2' deep water.

Assuming we have a 10% gap over the top of our cylinder @ TDC, thats still...2.0/4 =500cc*.1 = 50cc of water? Again, I'm not sure on the gap we have but its definitely not more than 30% (150cc) even 150cc of water is NOT a lot..
I was about to same the same thing, but when I go to the bottom it had already been addressed.
Also Deepee, conditions can change very quickly. I don't know much about Atlanta, but here in San Antonio you can go from cloudy and dry to driving down a river in about two minutes. If you are stuck in traffic, and can't get out of a low spot in time then you'll be praying for an intake that sits high and dry.
