SOS Throttle body for DBW - More HP Fact or Fiction?
I've been looking into the SOS throttle body for my 06 NA and the more I research it the more confused I get. Here is where I am:
- On the SOS site there is a dyno plot for a 4-6 hp gain on an 08 S which is DBW
- I've read on the forums that there are no real gains to be made from the SOS on the DBW - such as the article by Gernby
- Here is the most confusing part for me. The the SOS throttle body :
2006-09: Honda SOS
inlet size 68 mm 71.2 mm
outlet size 64.9 mm 66.4 mm
I understand that everything tapers to the butterfly flap but isn't the butterfly flap replaced and the inner diameter bored out as well? The increase is close to the increase in size from the AP1 throttle body to the first version of the SOS throttle body, why wouldn't it make a difference? Also, has anybody gotten real gains from the TB? Has anybody gotten no gains from it?

Why not just use the OEM J37 throttle body from the Honda Pilot / Acura MDX? I've been using it for a year now. It's approximately 80mm at the opening and tapers to approximately 70mm iirc. You'll need a tuning solution. I had to make minor changes to my fuel maps when I installed mine.

Yep, it's a bolt on affair using the P2R adapter for an 06-11 Civic Si. However, ideally you need to port match the manifold opening. I just picked up a second oem manifold, bored it out in my spare time, then simply swapped manifolds.
I didn't do a back to back comparison of just the TB swap, so I can't speak for numbers. However my fuel maps required a lot of changes. For driving on track, I prefer the larger throttle, especially on the heel and toe downshifts.

I can vouch for the J37 throttle bodies. I've used them a lot on 06-11 civic si's and there are always gains. As stated above, you need to bore out the opening of the intake manifold. I am running a larger throttle body on my ap1 and also noticed gains on the dyno.
