Default Used Skunk 2 Alpha header: warped?

Notice the buildup on cyl 1 and 4

hey all,

im looking at buying this used header. But noticed in the pictures some significant buildup on the mating surface. Does this seem abnormal or maybe just a shotty install causing leaks?

It was probably installed and removed a few times, and/or they used a gasket more than once or used a cheap gasket. What you are seeing is a gasket leak, not likely warped in those locations.

hey man,

thanks for the input. I was thinking the same but wanted to get a second opinion on it. Appreciate you taking the time to respond. Hopefully I’ll pick this up this weekend. Coincidently there’s someone also selling the skunk2 cat back as well. Thinking about getting the whole set up...but we’ll see.

Do neither. These skunk2 exhaust products always seem to pop up second-hand.....The alpha header hasn't been proven anywhere to make power over stock....I'd much rather run the stock manifold over the junk2 crap. Their exhausts sound like crap. Save your money. Not being negative, just being real. You'll find no benefit in changing the stock header to the alpha aside from weight savings. If you're okay with that trade-off then I won't stop you as I'd be a hypocrite; I bought a Toda header myself purely because I wanted it, they look nice, and the weight savings is a plus, but I also accepted there wouldn't be much, if any, gains in performance. Just clarifying that this header really won't give you any gains whatsoever, if that was the reason you were considering it, reconsider lol.
