Test pipe was the biggest PITA for me. The noise was to die for but the poor fuel economy, the smell and the smoke made me remove it - I miss the sound every day I drive through a tunnel in VTEC

The STB and the rear lower brace had a marginal if any effect, although the front lower brace makes a huge difference to steering feel.

Good thread
I didn't know TP made fuel economy worse...? You are probably just stomping it harder due to nicer sounds.

Do not get Taitec Seat Rails to lower seat height. Not sure if it fits OEM seats but the damn thing is showing signs of starting to rust.

I got a useless mod for everyone....

Spark Plugs : OEM NGK's FTW!

On the testpipe commments regarding fuel efficiency... I noticed that with my TP, when I am driving local, my fuel economy actually does suffer slightly, and on highway, for some reason, my fuel economy improves slightly.

Can anyone comment on voltage stabilizers/grounding kits? Everything that I have read about them tells me that they are useless, while I see some high end track cars that use them. Feedback pelase.

Test pipes can cause a reduction in fuel economy if you don't have a CEL fix. If the CEL is on for the TP, then it will run rich in an attempt to heat up the catalyst.

Well, all I can say is I upgraded to better brakes:
SS brake lines
Slotted rotors
Hawk HPS pads
Dot 4 Motul 600 fluid

I thought the same thing Nightcrawler thought until I drove my friends S(same year, same color)that had the stock brakes and started braking a little aggressively. Come to find out his ABS kicked in instantaneously and I felt the diminished braking compared to mine. I don't remember when the last time my ABS(yes my ABS works) kicked in. My car stopped much more smoothly and on a dime!
That sounds like you have better tires than your friend. If the ABS comes on it means the braking force is overcoming the tires and the brakes need to back off to keep the wheel from locking up. So the ABS being more active on your friend's car either means his brakes are better (not likely with stock pads) or his rubber is worse.

The best brake upgrades for the S are pads, fluid and sticky tires!

I get surprised every once in awhile by how low the grip is on all season tires when I am driving friends' cars at AutoX.

There's not a need to really change anything on the car. Just mod what you choose.

So as far as, What NOT to mod? Well, that's up to you and what you ultimately intend to accomplish with your s.

My s2000 came with some voltage stabilizer on it. I took it off once just to see if it made a difference, not one bit. I put it back on just for the hell of it but to me it made no difference at all.

don't mod to the point where you can't drive the car daily.. it defeats the purpose of the car if you make it into a racing show car then its fine.. If you want best of both worlds get some ear plugs and a really loud stereo system for daily driving lol
