Default Engine help

Ok i thinking of buying a 2001 s2000 i come reallyfrom a toyotaback ground mr2 turbos, supras, nissans 200sx etc so im looking forwards to one of these im lookimng at buying a s200 with a shot bottom end.

im told it has the bottom end bearings gone big and main, which is not a big deal as i can re grind the crank and change them all, the reason im told is that these engine burn oil as some do. Now im wondering if this has run that low could it have affected the cam shafts and messed up the oil pump.

I wondering if i could be lucky and just get away with new shells but i have not seen the car, any advice would be good ie what involed would i get away with using the same chain, and pump im happy change gaskit etc but just need to know if i should forget the idea and if it was likely to have ****ed the top end (arew the cam shaft running on shellsor bushes)

Many thanks

Andy

To really know what all is wrong, you will have to tear the engine apart. Usually if a bearing in the bottom end went out, the head with the cams and everything aren't affected. If you go check the car out, I would at least see if you can pull the valve cover off before you buy it and inspect the cams, retainers, ect. Also to make sure it didnt drop a valve.

If I bought that car and the head and cams seemed in good shape, I would just find a used shortblock on here. I had to do this when I had a scorred cylinder on my s2000, and I bought a complete shortblock for $1500, put my head on it, and dropped it in. Also just curious, but how much are you thinking about paying for this s2000? Is the rest of it in good shape?

3.5k is a steal. Assuming the rest of the car is in good condition.

This happened my engine...Spun all the bearings..

I was told that i couldnt get oversized shells and the the crank couldnt be ground as the crank is made to match the block...

I just got a short block and reused the head...

You can rework the crankshaft up to 0.25 mm - not more!
I've tried 0.5mm and this was to much. With 0.25mm there's no problem.
You can get 0.25 mm oversized shell bearings from ACL.
