The 98db limit is pretty low, most N1 style mufflers are going to be above that. If you run something like an Invidia or Skunk2 you'll have to use a silencer.

I put a Dynatech 3in. cone silencer in my J's 60RS. I could tell the difference in the exhaust volume and I could not tell any difference in power. Dynatech clams a 1db to 3db reduction. It's a small improvement but may help if you are on the edge of the limit. They also make one that is built into a turn down.

my apologies, I put 98 and infact its 101 ... does that make much difference?
For clarity, that would be the reading they take at static, so about 2-3 feet from the exhaust with the revs at just about 6k
