Thanks Kyle. Appreciate the input. I'll have to get my hands on a set to try out this year. Being that they're a 10pt tire along with the R7, I'm more interested in which tire, sticker for sticker, is faster.

IMO, that's going to be the Hoosier. The C71 might give the R7 a run for it's money (since it's a little faster than the C51) but Hankook has limited sizes and they always have issues with supply. If you want to try them out, I would suggest ordering them now as they frequently cannot supply them once the season begins for everyone (i.e. not just the folks in the warm regions).

Hoosier A7 is the fastest DOT tires for sure. However, Hankook C71 is not far behind. I tested both of them last year and I can definitely confirm they are not that much apart. I was seriously considered running C71 at the runoffs last year.
Andrie, within the NASA TT crowd, specifically TTF-TTB, the A7s are worth too many points to run. It looks like the R7 is one of the best tires to run for contingencies. But how would you rate the C71 vs R7?
R7 is significantly slower than A7. C71 is only slightly slower than A7. C71 is definitely faster than R7.

One thing I find interesting is the A7 and C71 like similar setup. I would choose to run C71 most of the time. In those times I need the extra 3 tenth, I'll put the Hoosier A7. Keep in mind the A7 is only faster than C71 in the first 3 heat cycle. The C71 is also shit by 7th Heat cycle.

I did extensive testing in all brand and model tires last year in my quest for Runoffs. Yes it cost a lot of money. I don't even want to discuss my tire budget last year was.

chi's motor's been turbo!
The best my car ever felt was on 2770lbs /210HP reclass at mid ohio in 2012, this ap2 motor is a beast on the dyno but I can't seem to go any faster than with the 2l motor and less weight

While my main setup will be TTC* with 225 R7's, I'm trying to decide on my maxxis rc1 setup (for contingency and non-competitive events).

All options re on 17x9's

Option 1) TTC* 222hp @ 2775 lbs and 235/40/17 (1 point to spare)
Option 2) TTC 220hp @ 2830 lbs and 255/40/17 (4 points to spare)
Option 3) TTC 220hp @ 2830 lbs and 275/40/17

Thoughts? Option 2 is on there, even with 4 points to spare, because I still can't figure out if 275 is going to be better on a 17x9 rim than a 255. Price isn't an issue since the cost differential is minimal. Just worried about tire pinching slowing me down

If the points are the same, Hankook C71 is definitely faster than R7. I tested them both in 245/40/17. A little warning. Hoosier 245 is significantly wider than Hankook. In fact the Hankook on 9" wide wheels looks the same with Hoosier on 10" wide. And still the c71 is faster than R7

Pat, I was thinking of a similar setup to #1 (but with the lower weight and power of the AP1) with 235 NT01s. I don't think the 275 on 17x9 is going to do you any good (does these even fit under your fenders?) and 4 points seems like a lot to leave on the table. It probably comes down to how wide the 235 vs 245 Maxxis actually is.

There is no 245 width Maxxis RC1. I keep hoping they will come out with one because 245 to 255 is a point hit in TT3-TT1.

Thanks for this information! I wonder if you have ever run the Hankook Ventus TD (z221)? Hankook told me the compound is the same as the z214 but the construction is different. The cool thing about that tire is that it is not undersized like the 214's.

The compound is not the same. In fact it is the old compound when Z221 first came to US.

When Z221 first came to US they were available in C50 and C70 compound. This was in 2006 IIRC.
They improved it and came out with the C51 and C71 compound. Later on C91 compound.

They are not as fast as the newer compound IMO. I've ran the old compound, but not TD.
