Default 70mm HFC for STR

I just talked to Brian from Berk about acquiring a HFC for STR. He knows about the flush mount bung thing(20 bucks surcharge), but he mentioned that a Jason Wong said only a 63.5mm was legal. He did say that core of the 70mm is considered rated for the S2000. It probably won't matter for next year anyways, still that's just an assumption. So is there any reason a 70mm HFC is illegal?

I can't think of a single reason why it would be illegal...

70mm Berk is legal if it doesn't have the cel fix.

And why is that? There isn't any performance advantage having or not having the cel fix...

because "its tricking the o2 sensor" and thats "illegal" if people want to be a baby and cry about it. Just order the berk 70mm one over the phone and tell them you want the str legal one. Its a extra $20-25

I think the new proposal for 2012 with the ecu change and I think a HFC change but I'm not sure if it mentioned the usage of a de-fouler.

I would like confirmation as well if 70mm is legal. This is the first time i have seen this come up an ws planning on getting a 70mm. I have heard that it is illegal to have the O2 bung welded on instead of flush. If this is illegal, then my next question is for those that have the modified O2 bung, has anyone experienced any CEL issues with the STR legal HFC?

true but it does allow for the ECU to disable any CELs

So if I come to an event with a clear performance advantage that is not allowed by the rules, does that mean whoever protests is being a "baby and crying about it" because I did not adhere to the same rules that everyone else has to?

OP, I've got the 63.5mm HFC. Is the 1hp difference between the two cats going to be the difference between first and second, or is your driving going to? I saved a few bucks and bought the first used one I came across, which just happened to be the 63.5mm.
