I got into a discussion at the Nashville Road Tour about max speed in 2nd gear. I am able to get a Racekeeper/GPS verified 60.5mph out of second gear when hitting the rev limiter. I am tuned to 8500 rpm. Is that right? Another AP2 driver said he was at 62/63. He didn't say what he was tuned to but did elude to if you are willing to increase the rev limiter you could get more speed out of 2nd gear (well duh). Then went on to say maybe he is only getting 60 mph. Maybe it was just word games but what is everyone getting out of 2nd? Anyone got there rev limiter above 8500 (AP1 aside)?

Does anyone know if anyone has done an reliability testing above 8500 rpm on a AP2? I have read a bit about piston speed and am just curious what the limits would be. To further ramble on, I would not hesitate at a tour event to bump the limiter to 9k if it would make the difference for a win. (I am a ways from getting the whole driving part down though.)
I spent most of last year with a 9K redline. With 245 Dunlops I was seeing 64-65 MPH at redline.
How often were you hitting the 9k? How many miles are on your car?

It's an 04' with aprox 40k. I don't think I hit 9k more than the average guy here. I only have one UOA mid way through the summer to reference. Since then I've put the car in storage and I won't have anymore data for 3 years.

In reality, I tend to do less laps per session, but these are conservative numbers.

Wear basically tripled with 100 extra RPM during that oil change interval.

All samples are with 300V 5W30. I would imagine my oil temps are higher on track than at a AutoX, but 300V takes high temps well.

Were you running a "soft" limiter with limited over-run?
I've got datalogs of the stock limiter and a softened limiter. The softer limiter only has ~100RPM of overrun, while the stock limiter has ~300RPM of overrun (meaning a limiter of 8500 would see 8800RPM).

My 04 with 8600 rev limit gets 61-62 in second gear on stock gearing with 255 RS-3s. 90 percent of the time its 61 but occasionally it will blip 62 depending how hard I hit the limiter.

The N1 racing time attack car that I drove, had the rev limit at 8500 rpm and I use them all the time. Engine still running strong after 2 years. Engine was built 2.3L motor. Built by J's racing.

I'm not *exactly* sure what you mean but the 8500 limiter involved a soft cut at 8400 (meaning if slowly went up to it, it would just stop revving higher at 8400) If I were accelerating hard (e.g. downhill, WOT, lower gear) and manage to still hit 8500, then it would completely cut power until the RPMs drop back under 8350.

Everything is lower by 100 RPMs with the 8400 limiter.

Just to clarify, I am running a FlashPro, and have my datalogger tapped directly into the RPM wire from the ECU. The flashpro can log directly from the ECU, but it's annoying having it dangling while driving
