Default ball joint wrap (do you and what to use)

I haven't seem much discussion about wrapping the ball joints but i do see quite a bit of people doing it.

I assume the purpose is to protect the rubber from getting worn from the extreme heat of the brakes.

what is everyone using for a wrap?

Rob touches on it here and has a few pictures. Looks like it's just aluminum tape

Yea, I use Home Depot aluminum tape (in the tape isle) and it works great but the sweet setup is some kind of high temp asbestos looking cloth. Somebody had it on in a picture posted about ball joints. I use the front brake dust shields for brake ducting and the shields help control the heat. If you remove the shields the protective tape is really needed to protect all the rubber boots--front and rear.

is there a big difference on the header wrap and the thermo wrap? i would think that it is the same application.

header wrap keeps heat inside it seems while the thermo wrap seems to keep heat out?

i just did my ball joint wrap.

i used some DEI header fiberglass wrap around the ball joint. I used safety wire to hold it on.
i didnt know if the silver stuff is better but this is what i had around and i didnt have to tape it on even though taping is easier.
