I am not sure if you are aware of the fact that you will need to take the interior out anyway to unbolt any bar... Its not the sort of job you want to do on the weekend. Just for fun you should try taking the stock interior out before purchasing anything to be sure you get a feel for it.

I recommend you get a copy of the instructions from Cusco. The Cusco bar doesn't just drop in, you still have to drill holes and bolt it otherwise it's just lose.

Its to my advantage that you buy the Cusco because its less work for me Believe me, the less roll bar I sell the better, all my friends in product design think its crazy to even think about selling roll bars. Its with great reluctance that I am making them.

I think you might have the wrong idea about what's involved with Cusco. It doesn't matter what bar you install from whatever company, in whatever car, its a serious amount of work. Ask the miata guys if they would like to take theirs in and out, or talk to owners at the track. You will need to make an informed decision that is not based on an opinion you read in a forum. You will have to go out and seek people with roll bars in their cars in the paddocks, especially people that did the work themselves, doesn't matter what car. Some leg work is required to make an informed decision. Just my opinion.

cheers

Wael, how much heavier would it be to build a roll bar for which the top of the bar was removable from the bottom? Something that you could pull pins or remove bolts and leave only the posts up to about shoulder level?

I'd have bought your bar long ago, except I don't like the idea of having any roll bar so close to my head in a daily driver situation, without a helmet. If the part that was within reach of the head was removable, that would be great for track/street use.

I assume the loss of structural integrity due to the joints would have to be compensated for with thicker walls, and would thus be heavier. Did you ever look into this when you were designing your bar?

SCCA doesn't allow it, there is a provision for removable bars but we can't meet it because I believe the required amount of tubing that slips can't be met, also requires special pull pins...its been so long since we looked into it but I remember very well spending a lot of time trying to meet their requirement and it was physically not possible with the dimensions.

The provision, I believe, was intended for vintage racing as well, but I can't remember.

cheers

If your looking for a bar for Solo or HPDE. Elda is the one you want. Most other stuff is made for looks more than function and safety.

If I remember correctly the Cusco is used for the Top Secret S2k. The Spoon car probably uses there own.

I have installed the cusco and currently is in my own car. You could install and re-install without that much trouble if you keep the rear tray out of the car. BTW the rear tray does need to be cut if putting it back in. The hardest part of installing and re-installing would be the back mounting plate bolts. But with pulling it out after every event you would be bound to damage interior pieces most likely scratching them.

To be honest with you I wouldnt get the Cusco again and would rather have the Elda bar instead. Im installing a Spoon bar within the next couple of weeks so Im not sure how it compares to the Cusco or Elda.

I definitely want to get an Elda when this next buy comes up, so put me on your list. (Don't stop making them quite yet.)

It's by far the most elegant design if you want to keep your car street friendly.
Opinions vary, I prefer my custom bar...
