Default Brake piston rubber lining

I was swapping my pads/rotors for this weekend, and discovered this...

Should I be worried and/or start looking for a replacement?

I haven't had that rubber lining on my car for years. No sign of negative impact yet.

I removed mine as they caused more issues and I melted them at every track even.

So far it has been 9 months without an issue. I plan on rebuilding once a year.

Hmmm I must not be fast enough if I'm not melting them... or maybe I'm too fast

just a dust boot for the seal thats inside the caliper between caliper and the piston. as long as theirs not brake fluid leaking your perfectly fine

Just make sure you clean the piston before pushing it back in for new pads if your dust boot has been removed. Don't rely on the seal to do that job otherwise you'll most likely end up with a leak.

Be careful of the dust boot when pushing the piston back in.

that does't look like it melted. just ripped off probably when the last time it was pushed in. if it's mainly a street car, then get it rebuild and replace the dust seal. you don't want it to get rusty in there.
