Brake question
This doesn't have much to do with S2000s but I had a problem on a track recently and I was wondering what you guys thought.
I was driving my friend's MR2 Spyder at Arroyo Seco in New Mexico, he had told me before I drove that the brakes had overheated before and to go easy on them. I took his advice and was much nicer on the brakes than I normally am.
Going into one corner, I pushed on the brake pedal and it got mushy, the car lost about 75% of its braking ability all at once and it felt like the ABS was firing. It was no problem as there is a ton of runoff at this circuit, so I just pulled off the track and stopped.
My friend is convinced it was his crappy pads, I was under the impression it was fluid, but neither would account for the ABS.
Another thought I had was that the ABS was sensing a wheel lockup when there wasn't one and was preventing me from further depressing the pedal, but I don't think that would account for the extra travel in the brake pedal.
Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like fluid to me, but he may have so totally overheated the pads that they were ruined. Either is possible.
I doubt it was actually ABS you were feeling, but I don't have any experience with that car, so I suppose anything is possible. Some ABS computers are not as robust as they should be.

You might be boiling the fluid in just the rear calipers. I'm guessing if you boiled the fluid in the front calipers you'd feel more of a difference.
I made the mistake of running stock pads on the rear of my S and had similar symptoms. I forgot I don't have control of bias like I do on the bike.. Oops!!
Check the rear pads to see if they're baked and bleed the brakes with a clear tube to see what the fluid coming out looks like. I'm guessing it'll probably be cooked if you boiled it.
