Jaku: Impressive lap times considering the street tire you where using. With RE01R/R1R/Neova, you would drop an another 2 seconds easily.
808_S2k: Nice to finally meet you. Thanks for taking some great shots on Sunday. Glad that you shipped back your S2 all the way back from Italy.

This is a repost from my build thread located here rob.ok build. This was my first time at BW and I did a write up for the local CVS2KS. Enjoy.
Buttonwillow Race #13 CW 6/1/08

First things first. You guys missed an awesome time...Hot but awesome!
My personal goal for the day was a 2:18 which I was able to surpass. I originally thought that the the day was over booked but as it turns out there really was not that much traffic as almost everyone in my run group was running similar times. Big
Its no wonder why this track and this configuration is used for the Super Lap Battle and for the Redline Time Attacks. Breaking the 2 minute barrier is comparable to breaking the 1 minute barrier at Tskuba in Japan. Anyone or car running in the 2:05 area is FAST
The track is extremely fun, fast, confidence inspiring, and rewarding. All enthusiast should experience it. I requested a session of coaching for line help. Rob Burgoon in a maroon Miata showed me the correct line and gave me a ride in his Miata later on in the day. This guy knows what he is doing
My coach took me for a ride in his Nitto NT01 equipped Miata. It was unbelievable how much grip that little car had! He was able to hit a 2:12 on basically a stock car. Spend the extra money and get coaching. It will make your experience much more rewarding.
I could see that there was about 2 maybe 3 seconds more that I could have made up in the high speed section from the cotton corners to the bus stop as well as riverside and the sweeper. Unfortunitly I was not able to run my last session of the day due to some serious brake issues. My plan was to take it easy and get the correct line down before really stepping it up. I wanted to end the day giving it my 10/10ths. Even though I was not able to I still surpassed my personal goal for the day

Heres a good tip. For those of you with some experience tracking but want to slow things down and work on you lines try this.... I asked if I could run in the white (beginners) group which only allows passing on the straights with a point by so that I could slow it down and work on my lines with out being pushed. The blue group that I was in allowed passing anywhere with a point by and was loaded with much faster cars like Evo, STI, NSX, M3, Porsches, and even a Mercedes that was fast! It worked too. I was able to really get the line down without being pushed plus I got extra track time

2:36.xx fist blue session with coaching
2:26.xx second white (beginners) session
2:22.xx second blue session
2:19.xx third blue group
2:16.86 fourth blue group
In my third session I did spin the car out coming down the lost hill. It was pretty scary! All I could see was an evo coming straight at me at about full speed while I was sliding backwards at about 50+ mph
I was able to back the car off the track and stop in the dirt with no problems. Good news is there is no damage at all. Not even a scratch just a lot of dirt everywhere
A guy in a white M3 spun his car a tried to save it coming out of the esses and totaled his car on the retaining wall about 80-90 feet off track. They ended up taking him away in an ambulance so we all had that on mind to. If you keep a good head on your shoulders you should have no problems. Safety should be paramount. You can get hurt even killed or go home with a broken car so you have to respect the track.
I was fighting some serious brake issues all day long which really sucked
I was not sure how fast I was going but the last time I looked it was 103 mph and I was still accelerating. I would imagine that I hit about 107+ mph before braking. Slamming on the brakes at this speed could not even engage the ABS system. I'm pretty sure I even boiled the brake fluid too
This really slowed me down because I had to brake really, really early and sometimes I still could not slowdown fast enough and I would mess up my corner entry effectively making me much slower on the straight. On my last session I was able to run I gave it about 7/10ths and ended up surpassing my personal goal for the day. I'm pretty happy with the 2:16 lap time however I know that there was still 2 maybe 3 seconds that I could gain in the high speed sections from the cotton corners to the bus stop, riverside, and the sweeper. I was pretty quick from the esses all the way through button hook. However I could use a little work on the line at the top of the lost hill. I kept on missing the apex which is also the reason why I spun out. The track was also getting really hot and was slowing everyone down. It was really noticeable after 2:00pm. Coming into the pits the tires were overheated, greasy and loaded with rubber from the track.
In my fourth session I was only able to run 4 laps. The last of which I was able to clock my fastest time of the day. I completely lost my brakes going into sunset
I burned through all 4 OEM pads and was running on just the backing plates. As soon as I exited the track I could hear the pads squealing. Thats when I really noticed that there was no pad left at all on all four corners and I scored the rotors pretty badly
Its a miracle that I didn't crash into someone or kill myself! I knew I was having breaking problems and I checked my pads after each run group. I'm not sure what happened but I think I just overheated them and they more or less just decentigrated. I would highly recommend running a track oriented compound at Buttonwillow in order to get the most out if your day. It was a real disappointment
I'll post photos of the pads once I get hem off. I ended up having to drive all the way home with no brakes too!
A big thumbs up to Mike and the rest of the Evasive Crew. These guys are really friendly and encouraging. Big thanks to Ken in the blue S for the SRC tips!
BTW all of these guys are fast! Most of the S2000 were running 2:02 and under! Mike in his personal white Civic Si was running a 2:12s on street tires! Wow that Civic is awesome
BTW this was also the shake down for the Tein SRC dampeners. I have to say that I was impressed! I could jump the curb at the bus stop and through the esses at pretty high speeds with out upsetting the car at all. I had a little trouble finding a good setting at first but thanks to Ken and Mike they gave me some suggestions that felt 100 times better this also helped increase my laps times as the car felt more stable and planted. I was able to load the suspension and turn in was sharp! I really didn't experience any under steering except for in the sweeper. However I did get quite a bit of oversteer but it was controllable. Overall the car felt great besides the brakes which sucked!
The GoodYear Eagle F1 tires held up really well. As I mentioned before I was experiencing a lot of oversteer but I was really impresed with turn in as it was perfect. Overall I though the tires were really good but the size (width) did not match the 16kg springs of the Tein SRC. The 225 in the rear just could not load the springs and hold the car on corner exit. I think a 255 would have solved the problem. In fact Mike and the evasive crew seamed to be fairly impressed that I was able to pull a 2:16 for it being my first time at BW and on AP1 wheels. They also agreed with me that the biggest limiting factor was the AP1 sized tires. However I can see that If I want to go much faster from the cotton corners to the lost hill which is a really high speed section I'm gonna need a wing to keep the rear end planted.
I think at the next track day I'm gonna bring my OEM rear swaybar to see how much the Swift swaybar is playing into this. The oversteer issue is probably caused from 16kg springs and the heavy sway bar. The car is not making the most of the 225 tires grip level. However with the 255 NT01s I'm panning on running it should be a perfect match

My new personal goal will be to hit a 2:08 on the new set up (brakes, suspension, and 255 NT01s) the car should be capable of hitting under the 2 minute mark with a wing but I figure its going to take some time to get the car set up correctly. We'll see how quickly I can learn
Once I get the car completely set up to the best of my ability's I've asked Rob Walker to take it for a spin and see what he thinks about the set up and give me some tunning suggestions. Hopefully he'll give me a big BTW its only an additional $75.00 bucks to rent a garage at BW. If we can get a big enough group together thats the thing to do. Shade!!!
See you at the track

I tested with Duracell Alkaline batteries from Costco, $20 for a pack of 24
I wasted 2 new batteries just to see how long it actually last, it's about 35 mins
and re-charhable batteries actually works, my friend tested it and his lasts 40 mins

Rechargables MAY work under ideal temps, but below 60*F, they will most unlikely work.
Lithium Ions work very well, regular batteries 35 mins like you got to about an hour. Spend the extra $ and get the Lithium Ions
