Default a/c removal

I want to remove my air conditioning for weight savings. I know it won't save much but I don't ever use it anyway because if it is hot the top is down. I was wondering what is needed to do this. Those of you who have done it what did you do. I know i will either need to keep a pulley there or replace the belt with a shorter one right? Any help is appreciated.

You need the AC by-pass belt (search, you'll find it) from Kragen/AutoZone/PepBoys. You'll also need a service manual.

FWIW I think it's a mistake to remove the AC on a street car.

No A/C also kills the resale on a 07. Might as well paint it pink.

You'll need to take the car to a shop to have the refrigerant recovered. It's illegal to vent the system to the atmosphere.

dont do it... just bypass ur ac compressor.. it will give u a little bit of power....resale value will be affacted....and sometimes you might need the a/c... use a 46 inch belt (its shorter than the oem belt) that u can get in autoparts stores for about 12 bucks....

not worried about resale......I'd like to lose the weight.

Should I get a service manual to figure it out?

for the amount of weight your going to trim its retarded. go on a diet or switch to lightweight 16" or 17" rims. swap out the exhuast for a lightweight single. swap body parts for CF. but for god sakes, why did you buy a new s2k if your going to butcher it? shoulda bought a used one if this was your intention.

The advice everyone is telling you, which you are blatantly ignoring is, that you are completely destroying the value of your car, now and in the future, for a weight savings of no more than 20 pounds. All you can really remove is the compressor which is located at the very bottom of the engine. The belt does you nothing unless the AC is on otherwise it's a free wheel.

Your entire evaporator and heater core is plastic and aluminum and weighs very little and they are one piece; you can't just remove the evap, you have to remove it all and that means no AC and no heat. If you do that your car is now worthless because it can't be sold without a heater as a registered street car.
