You do like doing things the hard (aka "stupid") way, don't you?
I like to think of it as the innovative way....thank you very much

im curious as to what this easter egg button is?
1) Turn vehicle off.
2) Turn fan knob off.
3) Turn temperature knob all the way to the left (blue area).
4) Turn vent knob to panel only setting (next to max a/c).
5) Hold down both air recirculation button and a/c button while starting car.
6) Continue holding for 7 seconds until air recirculation button stops flashing.
Works on my car. YMMV. (These instructions are written for a CRV, but the process is essentially the same.)

AC still comes on when you switch to defog mode, but now you can turn it off if you want.

If you reset your ECU, it forgets this and you have to do it again.

Interesting, is that a feature in later models? Both my MY00's have let me turn off the ac by just pressing the ac button.

Guess so. I know in my '02 I can not turn the AC off when it is in either split or full defrost mode -- until I do this trick. Then I can.

If I have it in split mode and then switch to full mode, the AC comes on again! But I can turn it off again too. If I go from full to split mode, though, it doesn't turn on again.

My Element also has AC turned on by the defrost mode, but with the Element it does not light up the AC button. It stays in a "stealth AC" mode.

I think that where I live the defrost works better without the AC than with the AC. The windows are fogging because the glass is cold, not because the humidity in the air is especially high.

http://www.wisegeek.com/how-can-i-keep-my-...-fogging-up.htm

just a little bit of info about the foging of the windshield. moisture in teh air cuases it to fog, hence humidty is moisture in the air. air conditioning removes moisture in the air, its a dehumidifier.

[QUOTE]Two approaches to combating interior fogging, which may be used simultaneously, are to increase airflow over the windshield and to reduce the moisture content in the air. Some agencies mount small fans inside the cab to direct air over sections of the windshield or windows that do not receive adequate airflow from the truck

The advice everyone is telling you, which you are blatantly ignoring is, that you are completely destroying the value of your car, now and in the future, for a weight savings of no more than 20 pounds. All you can really remove is the compressor which is located at the very bottom of the engine. The belt does you nothing unless the AC is on otherwise it's a free wheel.

Your entire evaporator and heater core is plastic and aluminum and weighs very little and they are one piece; you can't just remove the evap, you have to remove it all and that means no AC and no heat. If you do that your car is now worthless because it can't be sold without a heater as a registered street car.
I know you have a super stripped S2000. I've seen it in meets, but I've removed the compressor and condensor and I saved 37.62 lbs. That, plus the spare tire and all of the trunk carpet/tools saved another 27.5 lbs. And while I agree unsprung weight saving are better, that's over half the weight of a hottie (no pun intended), for free. (w00t)
