State Farm and Geico cover my car for HPDE. If they didn't ,then I could not afford to go to the track. Both companies clearly agreed that HPDE at the track was much safer than HPDE on the street.

Another n00b question, but regarding liability, if (god forbid) you hit someone, and hurt them, does that fall under the track's insurance? Or can you get sued by the other driver you hit (should they get hurt or their car get damaged)?

All insurance policies for street vehicles have a "no racing clause" basically stating any organized or unorganized racing event is not covered. It basically won't cover any timed event or street race HOWEVER the definitions in the policies are very loosely written. I work auto claims and have seen both motorcycle and cars covered while on track (Laguna Seca and others) as the people who owned the vehicles stated they were "driving schools". You can be denied coverage but as long as you stated it was a driving clinic and it was not timed you should be OK with most of the big companies. Trust me, 1 out of every 500 adjusters know what a track event is, you can always say you stuff it into a wall on the freeway and no one was injured so the cops never showed to take a report and they wouldn't know the difference

I just cancelled my Allstate insurance, partly because of a brand new addition to
the policy (underlined below) that says they will not cover liability, injury or
damage -

"...arising out of the participation in any prearranged, organized or spontaneous:
( a) racing contest;
( b) speed contest; or
( c) use of an auto at a track or course designed or used for racing or high
performance driving.

or in practice or preparation for any contest or use of this type."

My agent said I was no longer covered at driving schools or any other activity
at a track. I said bye.

Don.

I wonder if Allstate added that clause because:
a) they are actually getting a lot of claims from people damaging their cars at HPDEs
b) the claims that are made for HPDE accidents are big $$$, in general
or
c) they are just a bunch of tight-asses and want to pay as few claims as possible.

???

Glad to see you jumped ship, though... maybe they'll lose enough customers that the addition of that clause will not prove to be beneficial to them.

Hey DSR, what insurance did you switch to? I currently have allstate as well and was looking for a new insurance carrier. Any suggestions on which companies to switch to and will cover HPDE's?
