Default cat-less engine temps?

2001 ap1 bone stock power wise

would running a test pipe lower engine temps? would this be safer for my car on the track?

can a stock cat handle track abuse? with continuous heat

would catless effect part throttle?

You should get a tune if you run a test pipe. It will run a bit lean.

It will make enough of a difference, that I would want a tune. I don't think it will change your engine coolant temps at all. It can change your passenger compartment temps though as cats hold in a lot of heat.

A common failure on S2000 catalytic convertors is the front section of the honey comb cracking loose and then shifting back and sort of decapitating the secondary O2 sensor. More heat on track will probably lead to an earlier failure but only if the car sees pretty regular track use.

Although, most likely if you've got a lot of miles on it, and it hasn't broken yet, it probably won't. And if it does, then get the test pipe.

Yup, exactly this happened to my stock cat. I also knew my cat was going out because it blew pretty dirty on the sniffer when I smogged the car. Track time will cause the cat to fail much quicker due to time exposed to excessive heat.
