Default Battery relocate to spare tire area?

Hello,

I'm considering moving my battery to the spare tire area behind the passenger seat area more towards the center. I'm deleting my soft top building a aluminum close out with access panels and running a hardtop. The battery would be in a sealed box and be a gel cell battery.

My question is, does this effect my weight distribution... In a negative manner? with removing the soft top, adding the hardtop and maybe the battery it would still be a net loss in the area. I'm just starting to do open track days (couple a year) otherwise it spends quite a bit of time on the street.

I don't really have any particular reason or need to actually move it I just feel like it shouldn't be in the engine bay.

Any help or suggestions + or - are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Make it into another buggered S2000?

Not sure why you want to do either. Couple of track days? Vs quite a bit of the on the street? Open car is the main reason I got mine, the world is full of coupes...

AGM battery is the only safe solution in this location. Good choice.

Thanks for the input.

I've had the car for 9 years now and I've hated the soft top from day one. I guess in that aspect I'm looking to make it more like a cr. I always wished there was a coupe version of the s2000. I've never liked convertibles with the s2000 being the exception.

The stock mounting location is well behind the front wheels, and the OEM battery is pretty small. I don't think it would be worth it on a street car.

I moved the battery in both my Prelude and TSX... in both cases, it was a larger battery that Honda mounted right behind the headlight. That made a huge difference.

Doesn't make any sense to move the battery behind the rear axle. It is already in a great spot.

The weight of the cable sizing needed to reliably start the car would more than offset the weight loss of a smaller battery. You can buy LiFePo batteries now that are extremely light and don't blow up like LiPo (but expensive), or check out YouTube on replacing a large battery with a small AGM holding battery and 6 capacitors for starting.

If you're doing it for aesthetics (or just because you want to) that's all the reason you need. Just be careful with running the leads to the rear of the car. Don't want to bar-b-que your S!

it wouldn't be behind the rear axle, it would have been in the area behind the passenger where the soft top rests forward of the axle. It wouldn't be for any aesthetic reasons. I've seen it done on a few s2000 so I thought it may be beneficial. It's starting to look like there is no need or real benefits to moving it. So I may just delete my soft top make my close out and leave it at that.

Thanks everyone.
