Default Cobalt XR2

Back in late September Andie from Cobalt sent me a prototype set of their new "XR2" pad for the s2k. I've run the pad now for 5 races (including prac & qual), and 3 hpde days. All at Laguna Seca, one of the hardest braking tracks on the west coast.

Not only do the brakes stop so much better than the VR's (I've had to remove probably a half a brake marker from my brake points) but they hold the same long lasting/wear properties properties of the VR's. They bite HARD and don't fade. Oh yeah and they require almost not bedding. Just throw them on and go.

Cobalt has outdone themselves with this new pad. I've been waiting to post until they were available for sale which I'm told they are now. If you liked the cobalt pads, you really have to try a set of these.

http://www.cobaltfriction.com/ call them up and they'll be happy to sell you a set.

Oh yeah those gold posts are not rivets. You can see they don't go thru to the friction side of the pad. But are used in holding the pad to the backing plate. They won't damage your rotors.

I've not found that rivets damage the rotors either. The rotors are harder than rivets. I think they just spook people.

Thanks for the review.

I like the sound of "no bedding" unless it means I don't get any.

That looks like some fancy packaging there. How much are these things?

Cobalts come in a pretty box, a touch I like especially for such a dirty industrial product. for nice presentation.

I didn't get any prototype rears. But as Andie explained it to me you can pick and choose between the xr compounds for the rear. I think the ideal would be XR2 x4. I'll email him to ask.
