Thanks for all the good information here. I will do this soon. As for the, "why is this required [by SCCA]?" I found a very good reason this past weekend and thought it would be helpful to share.
In the event of a major fuel leak, it is good to be able to steer the car without turning the key and potentially introducing an electric spark.
I did not have a fire, but got close enough that I'm going to buy a fire extinguisher ;-)

I removed the lock completely and hard wired the power wires directly at the connector.
To remove the lock assembly, you drill out the top of the bolt. I used an easy out to back them out but the manual has you just break them off. From there you can see your options.

Hi Stratocaster..so this is a long shot but I'd like to ask you: How did you remove the ignition switch from your S2k? Mine just stopped working and labor to remove is quite pricey.
