Drivetrain Advice for track
Hi guys,
Curious what your opinions are as to transmission and clutch combo for 75% track/auto-x, 25% street driven S.
I currently have the act pp oem disk comptech fw combo (everyone says best option) however I was curious if anyone feels there's anything better for track (runs cooler/ more reliable / better modulation etc etc ). Maybe a stage 2 puck clutch with a less aggressive pp (save crank/bearings etc)
Also since i shall be replacing my old ap1 trani with a major grind in the 2nd - 3rd gear synco, what are you opinions on running an ap1 engine ap2 trani combo vs ap1/ap1 (with stock 4.10 rear)
The main tracks i venture to are, NJMP, Watkins Glenn, Pocono, Lime Rock, with future possibly being Monticello, VIR, Roebling, Road Atlanta.
Thanks
J's

No issues with slipping? I'm sure some of you na guys are making a little more power than I.
If I chose to go back to oem for reliabilty reasons is there any year pressure plate that's better than others.
Also for transmission wise I'll be running either 235/255 or 255/275 tires on the new 949 wheels when they come out (for gearing references re: transmission)
Thanks everyone

I have had no issues with slipping with my 2002 clutch and pp after 70,000 mi and 15-20 track days. Gearing is track dependent, so a tranny/final drive combo for one track might not be optimal for another track. I'd stick with the tranny you have and if you feel the gearing is off, tune the final drive.
It'll either be replaced by a used ap1 trani $600 ish
or a used ap2 trani $1000 ish.
Just curious if the shorter gearing in 1-4th combined with the higher 9000rpm will be beneficial enough (obviously track dependent) to warrent the extra $400.
This is one of the most rehashed topics ever, right up there with "what brake pads should I use?"
Bottom line is that most people drive whatever is on their car (usually stock) and deal with it just fine. I'm sure there are people in this forum that would be faster around your track in a minivan on all seasons than you are in your car. It's not like there is absolutely no benefit to be had by tweaking the setup of the car, but almost all of the differentiation between cars has to do with the drivers. And once you get to the point where tweaking the car makes a big difference, most of that has to do with the individual driving styles of the driver anyway (except for the gross measure of HP v. weight -- which you aren't talking about anyway).
So asking us what to do with your car is of very limited value.

I'll take your comments for face value and leave it as is, i'm not here to start fights at all! 99% true, the fastest guys will run circles around my in an oddysey probably.
I was asking more the expertise of people who do track often on what they use (clutch wise) as I had gotten a lot of positive comments for the act on the street, however with my friend just crank walking his ap2 with one, I'm skeptical.
So thank you to those who have given their input its appreciated!
I think i've gotten the answers i needed from those who have pm'd me.
Thank you
