I'm kind of surprised by some of the responses here. My team mate and friend (Dnace) and I have both come to the assessment his AP1 is not as quick as my Z3 3.0. Even if I got past wondering when the power would kick in when hitting 8k, it has been pretty clear when we were being irresponsible on country roads he could not pull from me and I could from him. Not huge difference but it was there. I'd have thought an E36 M3 would be in the similar boat.

I will see you at Blackhawk Farms Raceway on the memorial day weekend LOL
Yes you will and I look forward to meeting you you. While you will likely have the advantage of experience at HSAX, I will look forward to disproving some of the assumptions contained herein. Z3's suffer their flaws far more at autocross than on the track and my car is not stock. For the record folks, my comment was not intended to piss on the legs of S2000 owners. There are many aspects of the S2000 which is fair better than the Z3 -- most notably the entire chassis setup -- but I am saying the I6 produces more linear useable torque/hp which makes for easier acceleration. The S2000 has a lot of peak hp which can be extracted by very skilled drivers on any number of venues.

For the track stick to your e36 m3. I am talking from experience and over 10 years of track.

It's a little too late for that

Not to derail your plans to migrate to a S2000 but I have to ask what is your mechanical ability? I mean that I do most the most on my BMW. While an S2000 are more reliable, they've been known to break any number of items including diffs, and transmissions (probably more in autox than track), and have other issues which are still going to need the ability to turn a wrench. I've spent a fair amount of time the last year looking up at the bottom of an S2000 to know you can't be a track rat with a feint of heart.
