Can boosted guys comment on vented hoods? I see a lot of sawzall OEM DIY hoods. A local guy is selling his used Seibon vented hood. I might pick that up. Are hood pins a must?

Crash, how much longer are the ARP extended studs (100-7712) over stock?

With a catch can?
If you already use a catch can than you dont really need them. I like the krank vents for simplicity sake.

many of the mods you listed are performance mods. I was hoping you can break it down to "must or blow up engine" mod, and "recommended performance" mod.
I think of it the other way: if you wanted a certain level of all-around performance "improvement," what supporting mods do you need in order to stay safe?

It's nice to not have to reinvent the wheel and learn from the veteran racers out there.

Any comment on vented hoods? Dang search is still MIA.

I'd say at least an extra inch and a half. I have a box of my old studs lying around somewhere, so that's just off the top of my head.

Most people use open-ended lugs (I used Gorilla lugs from Summit).

I might just pick up this CF hood temporarily and run it for the first season. If I get hooked in, I'll start with the weight reduction modifications. I'll probably skip the hood pins then. Hope there's not enough flex that the latch ability is compromised....

Do you think the hood venting is unnecessary?

I run my car in the southeast (comptech sc with aftercooler) plus an air/oil oilcooler and have not had overheating problems so it may not be necessary but I dont think it would hurt. I would run the car first, track temps and see what happens. I do think someone on the board did some testing with a pyrometer pre and post venting and showed under hood temps to be lower. Search seems to be down so I cant provide a link.

Also, Im getting ready to replace stock wheel studs with ARP, should I go ahead and replace the hubs while Im there?

I think when we first had the studs replaced we replaced the bearings (for durability) but not hubs.

Then we "upgraded" the rear end to an InlinePro rear and promptly broke two sets of the DSS "1000hp" hubs.

If I had it to do over again, I'd stick with an OEM rear except for the differential itself. We've sheared off two different pinion gear teeth (one in a Comptech housing and 4.57 gears and the other OEM).

I would move the oil cooler to near the top of the list for a FI S2000 track car. An oil temp gauge is also a requirement. In my last outing instructing in a FI S2000 we saw 300+ degrees on a 70 degree day :0
