Finally got a good weekend on my STR setup
So yesterday was the first dry race I have run on my new STR set-up and I wanted to share with everyone.
Car is
2001 AP1
Comptech Front bar, Swift Rear bar, Buddy Club RSD Coilovers.
Wheels are TR Motorsports C3 17x9 +62 at all 4 corners, Tires are Hankook RS3's 255/40/17 at full tread depth.
Alignment is
Front: -1.5 camber , 0 toe , 6.5 caster
Rear: -2.2 camber , 0 toe
I had Megan coilovers on it before and my initial impression of the BC's was they were much firmer. And the adjustment knobs really made a difference with each click, where as the Megans just changed slightly after 5 clicks.
Wheels and tires set up was the best I have ever had. I have always run a staggered setup 225-255 on the car and have had a few different sets of rims. The front end grip is AMAZING. Geneva has a runway part that we always do a tight slow 1st gear turnaround in and braking for the turnaround was always a problem for me. Not now, the car felt very good under braking and can go alot harder without getting into the ABS. The Hankooks are very predictable at the limit, I think easier to control than the RE01R's I was running before.
I share the car with my girlfriend and we usually alternate who runs first and who runs second. This week was my turn to run first. On cold tires, on a course that I had walked almost 6 hours ago I ran 41.7, good for first place in class, and faster than the 42.5 goal I had set for myself. She ran 43.6 +2. After a few laps the tires started getting a little hot. I, not thinking, did not bring water to spray down the tires, so I backed the coilovers off a few clicks. Well at the end of the day I ended up with a 41.141, first in class out of 11 people and 5th in Pax out of 105 people. My girlfriend ended up with 41.361 second in class and 6th in Pax.
Overall I will say I love the setup, and I love the new class. We had 11 people in STR 9 S2k's 1 Miata and 1 350Z.

Hopefully I'll have something for you, Maggie, Jack, and John by the end of the year.
I'm not too disappointed with how I ran, considering it was a bone stock 06 with 255x4 Kumho XS. My goal was to be within a second of Jack, which I accomplished and then some. Should be a great year as we all start to get our cars sorted out!
