How do you know? Have you compared them with the same drivers on the same tracks to those over here, or in Europe?

And what's an "S2000" for the purposes of this discussion, anyway? Would a tube frame car with an F22C engine and OEM suspension pickup points be considered an "S2000"?

I look at race S2000s in Japan and in Europe and it's pretty obvious to see which ones are faster. Granted the ones in Japan are sometimes custom race prepped.

But lets just talk about bolt on parts. Japan still offers the most aftermarket parts for this car. Even though some of the parts seem silly in function, a lot of them still work (more or less). All these parts increase the performance bit by bit, and it does add up. Whether this is worth the money or not, again thats up to the person.

My car has coilovers, a single exhaust, a racing seat, and RA1s. But I do not deny the fact that highly modified JDM cars here are faster on the track here than me, even with the same drivers. But is it worth the money for me? No.

But I dont deny the parts do help.

How is it "obvious" just by looking at them? Granted, a fair amount can be predicted just by considering power to weight ratio, but for most race cars that's a matter of what rules they run under, since typically a race car is stripped to the point of adding ballast.

Beyond that, if you haven't actually put the cars on the same track and tested them with the same drivers, then you are just blowing smoke out your ass.

I'm sorry, but your statement that the "fastest S2000s in the world are in Japan" was at least as ridiculous as saying "all JDM parts are useless". Neither is true because neither has any objective meaning.

What is this "tube frame S2k you speak of? I'd like to see it.

This is powered by an F-series motor... not sure which. Probably not what Mike was referring to. Poor thing is painted Slozuka.

I've seen plenty of tube frame race cars, but it's true I've never seen one based on an S2000. No reason it couldn't be done, though. In fact, it probably has been. Maybe Stocky's car kind of qualified? The one he ran in the Dubai race?

My point here is that (reasonably well done) it would be significantly faster than any production chassis S2000, even one that was stripped down. So would you say it was the fastest S2000? Would you even consider it an S2000?

BKL's statement was not "well grounded", as the logic books say. Comparing cars only makes sense when you put it in the context of the rules they are built to.

I have no doubt that some JDM parts make the car go faster than the stock part in our cars. That said, I have no reason to believe that JDM parts are in any way superior to standard go-fast parts readily (and more cheaply) available domestically.

Until I see JDM parts making a significant impact in US racetracks (in races, with clearly-defined classes), I will continue to believe that the JDM craze is principally a fad for those who think that "JDM" means "cool;" fueled mostly by people who care more about "JDM" than about performance (i.e., they wouldn't be looking at the part if it didn't say "JDM"). I'm not one of those, so I won't be buying any JDM parts in the near future; more power (get it?) to those who do, but let's not confuse a fad/subculture with being the same thing as cost-effective go-fast parts.

Ohhh boy!!! This JDM thingy again....Everywhere I look.

There are parts that work and parts that dont....It does happen that there are more JDM parts out there so meaning more junk that doesnt work.

But that doesnt mean ALL JDM parts are crap.......There are some parts that work well for the car and are as comparable to the european parts.
